Application Process

The Chula Vista Police Explorer Post 2831 is comprised of approximately 30 members. Subject to available positions, new members are recruited twice annually - normally in summer and winter. To apply, you may email Officer Eric Carter to obtain an application package. The applicant should complete the application and submit it along with any required supporting documents to the front counter of the Chula Vista Police Department. The Explorer Advisors will review all the applicants and select those to be invited for an interview. All candidates will be advised if they have been accepted for the program or not. Candidates successful in the interview will be subject to a thorough background check prior to final acceptance.

Training

The Chula Vista Police Explorers hold training session lasting approximately two hours at the station every other week. Training may include topics such as physical training, defensive tactics, CPR/First Aid, or firearms. Additionally, demonstrations are occasionally offered in areas such as mobile field force, canine, gang enforcement, and forensics.

Within one year of acceptance in the program, all Explorers must attend a basic Explorer academy. The academy may be either the intensive one-week live-in academy or the extended format month-long academy. These basic academies teach Explorers the hand-on skills necessary to carry out their duties in the community.
