About Us
Chula Vista Police Explorer Post 2831 was established in 1968. The purpose of the program is to acquaint young people, ages 14 to 21, with the objectives of public safety in our community and to instill and promote sound morals, ethical conduct, and respect for law and order.
“Exploring” can enhance a young person’s education, encourage participation in a rewarding and productive community service activity, and strengthen preparation for future leadership roles. Besides gaining a working knowledge of police work, participants are afforded opportunities to give back to their community.
What do Explorers Do?
Explorers meet twice monthly, in addition, Explorers are required to participate in community events.
The Explorer Academy offers many opportunities for participants to apply the training they receive in real world situations. For example, Explorers may volunteer their service at community events by directing traffic, working crowd control, fingerprinting children, and other tasks involving contact with the public.
Participants can also learn, first hand, how police officers do their jobs. Sworn officers with specialized skillsets are invited to Explorer meetings to explain Police Department operations including; investigates into major crimes such as Homicides; Narcotics Violations; and Gang Activity. Explorers may also be eligible to participate in ride-alongs with patrol officers.
